Huancayo, Junin is not a region normally associated with coffee production. The path to these remote farms shows what the region is more known for, cold windy mountain peaks and the near barren landscape more accustomed to sheep and goat husbandry than coffee cultivation. Persevere though, and at higher altitudes, you’ll find lush  farmland. Coffee production wasn’t common even at these high altitudes until about ten years ago after the disease took hold of the more traditional maize and bean crops in the region. Today there are 45 hectares of coffee plants here, and the results are great!
