This coffee is from Montaña Alta, Guerrero, grown by the same communities as our current Lost Highway. This coffee was separated due to having a higher cup score. These communities produce tiny volumes of coffee, grown in the forests surrounding their homes and usually dried on tarpaulin in their gardens. These isolated communities have had many bad experiences with coffee buyers ripping them off or lying about how much they will pay which has lead to a lot of mistrust towards outsiders. Ensambles who we bought this coffee from is working hard to earn that trust being very upfront and paying cash on collection. They have also hired and trained a local woman, Rebecca Oropeza, who spends the harvest season collecting, buying, cupping and sorting the coffees from the various producers. The rest of the year she maintains her relationships with them, offering advice on best practices.
