This coffee comes from various smallholders living and working on the Rwenzori Mountains. The range formed 3 million years ago, runs along 120km of the border between Uganda and the DRC. The highest non-volcanic mountains in the world have often been used as a sanctuary for rebel groups starting with the Rwenzururu movement fighting for independence from British Colonisation in the 1960s. Coffee farmers in the region traditionally processed the coffee themselves drying cherries on tarpaulin then selling the dried beans. In 2016 the social enterprise ‘Agri Evolve’ started looking to help these farmers improve quality by investing in a washing station. This has helped farmers find more international buyers buying a hire price.
Brown sugar sweetness, blackcurrant acidity, and a buttery body with dark chocolate, shortbread and caramel notes.
All our coffees come in fully recyclable packaging.
