Alturas del Triunfo is produced by the indigenous Tzeltal communities of Buenavista and Emiliano Zapata, farming high in the Sierra Madre mountains within the El Triunfo Biosphere Reserve in Chiapas, Mexico. Despite widespread devastation caused by coffee leaf rust across the country, these communities have preserved organic production of traditional Red Bourbon and Yellow Caturra through careful farm management and collective resilience. Working closely with Beneficio Edelmira, the farmers selected only the finest cherries from their earliest harvest rounds, transforming years of persistence into a clean, expressive washed lot that reflects both place and people. By maintaining quality-focused production in the face of disease pressure, this project safeguards local livelihoods, reinforces sustainable farming practices, and helps ensure that coffee remains a viable economic and cultural cornerstone for the region.
