Operated by Demetrio and Rosa Sanchez in the La Plata region of Huila, Colombia, this farm is situated at a high altitude of 2,100 masl. Originally dedicated to root vegetables and maize, the family transitioned to specialty coffee in 2019 after climate change altered the local environment, planting varieties such as Pink Bourbon and Gesha. The producers employ a permaculture approach, intercropping coffee with avocados and plantains to enrich the soil and naturally reduce pests. This polyculture system ensures the family remains economically resilient by providing diverse sources of food and income while protecting the local ecosystem. As part of the Minga collective, the Sanchez family works within a traditional framework of community collaboration that connects Colombian producing families with a global supply chain.
